What’s your sign?

I am a Leo!

Where did your art journey begin?

I have been crafting my whole life, and I did a bit of painting in my late teens and early twenties, but I didn’t start actually trying to draw anything real until a few years ago when I needed a career change. Art became something I needed to do all the time. I took a graphic design class, watched A LOT of skillshare and YouTube videos, and I started drawing every single day. I would still consider myself a newbie illustrator, but I’m becoming more confident in my skills and voice.

Who are some of your biggest influences in the art and design world?

Ludwig Bemelmans, Marc Martin, Lisa Congdon, Dreyfus, Wednesday Holmes.

Your artwork is very imaginative and fanciful. Where do you get the inspiration for your flower people, bbf mushrooms, and moon gazing frogs?

90s kids TV shows were/are a huge influence for me: Hey Arnold, Magic School Bus, Arthur, Rugrats. I love the mini-series Over the Garden Wall. Any old kids’ books like Little Critters, Velveteen Rabbit, Dr. Suess books. I could go on!

Have you picked up any new hobbies or habits since lockdown?

I am learning the guitar! And I started playing chess again.

What’s your favorite place and way to recharge?

I normally would stay home because I’m a HUGE introvert, but since I’m home all the time now, getting outside near the river always helps me recharge.

What are you working on currently that has you excited? This does not have to be art related.

I have a bigger art project I’m excited about that I can’t quite share yet. I’m also trying to practice being more mindful and focusing on keeping my body and mind healthy.

What do you hope people gain from your art?

I want people to feel a sense of comfort from my art, to feel cozy and safe in the little world I create. I don’t have a much bigger message other than everyone gets to be themselves and safe in my world.
